PureCodex.Short-term notes. Long-term knowledge.

Write a note in one line, then file it later into the life areas it belongs to — home, work, health, study. Every note stays a plain Markdown file in a folder you choose.

iPhone and iPad: in App Store review

iPhone and iPad on iOS 15.0+ (the widget needs iOS 17) · macOS 11.0+. Free, no in-app purchases, no account. The Mac download is notarized and updates itself.

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. The installer is not code-signed yet, so on first run Windows SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC”: choose More info, then Run anyway. The Windows version does not update itself; to get a new version, download the installer again.

What it does

Notes work like memory. A short note goes into a capture stream first; later you file it into a life area, where it becomes long-term knowledge. You write first and decide where it goes later — and the answer can be more than one place.

Write now, file later

A capture bar at the bottom of the screen takes a note in one line. Mark it To do, To know or To library; the stream has search, filters and pinning. Move to hub later turns it into a wiki item inside an area. On iPhone, a Home Screen and Lock Screen widget opens the bar with the keyboard up.

Life areas instead of folders

Each area holds its own items and sub-areas, up to three levels. An item has one home area and can be added to others, and it is listed in every area it belongs to. It stays one Markdown file, with the areas written in the file itself.

Locked areas

Encrypt an area with a password, on the device: XChaCha20-Poly1305, with the key derived by Argon2id. Unlock it with Face ID or Touch ID; a one-time recovery code is shown when you create it. It locks again after an idle time you choose. Move existing notes in, and they are encrypted.

Your files, no account

A folder of .md files in a place you pick, including iCloud Drive. No account, no server, no analytics. The App Store builds make no network requests; the direct Mac download asks only whether an update exists.

Hebrew and English on the same page

Every line takes its direction from its own first letter, so mixed Hebrew and English notes read correctly with no setting. The interface is in English and Hebrew.

Ready for AI agents

Open your library in an AI agent of your choice. It can answer from your notes and point to the item each answer came from. A contract file keeps it off what you wrote: it adds summaries as separate items that list their sources. The app has no AI built in.

What OKF is

OKF is an open format for knowledge: a folder of Markdown files that people and AI agents can both read. Each item says what kind of claim it is, such as a fact, a decision or a passing note, so an agent knows how far to trust it. Every folder gets a table of contents, and links update when an item moves. The library stays plain text that any editor, any agent and git can work with.

Coming from Obsidian?

PureCodex can open an existing vault folder. It never reads or changes Obsidian's .obsidian settings folder, and it does not move notes or rewrite lines you did not touch. Know the limits first. [[wikilinks]] and ![[embeds]] show as plain text. Notes without frontmatter wait under Needs attention. Running sync adds an index.md to folders that have none, a _tags folder and a few frontmatter fields, and Obsidian will show those files.
