PureOpen.Every paragraph knows which way it runs

A Markdown editor for Mac and iPhone that decides text direction per block, so a document mixing Hebrew and English reads correctly without a single setting.

Formerly quickMD — same app, same developer, a new name. Free, with no in-app purchases. Signed and notarized by Apple — it opens without a Gatekeeper warning, and updates itself.

Features

Direction, tabs, and saving that stays out of the way

Direction per block

Every paragraph, heading and list item takes its direction from its own first strong character. A Hebrew sentence with English terms, code and links inside it reads correctly, and nothing is added to the file to make it work. How that rule resolves, and the one case it cannot answer, is written up separately.

Open it from the file, not from the app

Right-click a Markdown file in Finder — or long-press it in Files on iPhone — and PureOpen sits at the top of Open With. One click and it is open in a tab in the window you already have: no launching the app first, no file picker, no importing.

Browser-style tabs

Each file opens in a tab. ⌘1–⌘9 jump by position, Ctrl+Tab cycles, middle-click closes, and ⌘W closes the tab rather than the window. The tabs you had open come back next launch.

Autosave

Writes 600ms after you stop typing, and again on tab switch, tab close and window blur. A grey dot marks a tab with unsaved content — there is no save step to forget.

Keeps the file intact

An edit that did not change the content does not trigger a write, so opening a file never reformats it. If the file changes on disk, it reloads and keeps your scroll position. If it is deleted, editing locks.

Print it, or send it to PDF

The printer button prints the document; the one beside it writes it to a PDF file, without going through the print dialog to find “Save as PDF”. Either way the page is what the editor was showing — headings, tables, code blocks, Hebrew and English side by side, and none of the tabs or the toolbar. Pages break between lines rather than through them, and the paper is white even when the app is in dark mode.

Offline, free, no account

No network calls, no sign-in and no telemetry — the app ships without a networking layer at all. Your files are read and written where they live.

Already using Obsidian? Keep using it.

Open a note from your vault straight from Finder or Files, edit it, and it saves back in place. Nothing is imported and nothing is converted. Obsidian keeps working exactly as it does now, and PureOpen is just a fast window onto the same .md file.
